Exploring Big ideas for Little people

In this module, we'll explore fun activities to help your child recognise and name happy feelings linked to family members or people they know. We'll use pictures showing facial expressions to make it interactive and enjoyable. These exercises will strengthen trust and the special connection between you and your child.

SESSION 1: RECOGNISING & EXPRESSING POSITIVE EMOTIONS

RECOGNISING & EXPRESSING POSITIVE EMOTIONS

Get ready to explore and understand the feelings your child has about the special people in their life. This activity will help your child recognise and talk about the emotions they have connected to those who matter most to them.

Materials Needed:
A photo of your child or a drawing they've done of themself.
Photos or drawings of family members or significant people
Paper
Scissors
Pencils

Resources provided:
Face expression template to cut out.
Template of images

Lesson Activity

1. Get the Centre Image:
Take a photo of your child or let them draw a picture if you don't have one handy. Place this in the middle.

2. Include Family Members or Special People:
Collect photos of family members like mom, dad, siblings, grandparents, pets, or draw simple representations if photos are not available.

3. Arrange the Photos or Drawings:
Encourage your child to place these photos or drawings around their own picture.

4. Engage Your Child:
Ask your child if they notice anyone missing from the collection of photos or drawings. Concentrate on individuals connected to their home  life.

5. Encourage Feelings Expression:
Prompt your child to express how each person makes them feel by adding facial expressions (like happy, sad, etc.) to the photos or drawings. Also, ask what they like most about each person using the images provided if you like. Use open-ended questions like, "What do you like most about them?"

These steps aim to help your child identify and express their emotions about the people important in their lives. Enjoy the activity together!
