IMG-20231207-WA0006.jpg

This activity helps parents guide their children to recognise and talk about tough feelings or situations shown in an image. It creates a safe and open space for discussing and naming challenging experiences together.

Materials Needed:

An image depicting a challenging situation (such as a child sitting under a table)

Face expression images

Lesson Activity

1. Explore the Difficult Image:

Transition to the image showing a challenging moment (like a child sitting under a table): "Now, let's look at this picture. What do you notice? How does this picture make you feel?"

2. Talk About the Difficult Situation:

Encourage your child to express their thoughts and feelings about the challenging situation: "Can you tell me more about what might be happening in this picture? How would you describe the emotions here?" You can use emotion faces if naming feelings is challenging for them.

3. Compare Feelings and Situations:

Compare the emotions and situations between the happy and difficult images: "How are these feelings different from what we saw in the happy picture? What do you think can make things better in the difficult situation?"

4. Make a list:

Create a list of three actions your child could take, such as:

1. Speak to  mum & dad

2. Speak to an adult from their picture from session 1.

3. Draw a picture of how they feel.

---

These steps aim to help you and your child navigate through discussing emotions linked to different images, allowing for reflection and understanding between positive and challenging situations. Enjoy exploring feelings together!
